1. A year ago I bought a commercial DVD. It was purple on the under side so I knew it was a burned, not pressed DVD. It played fine. Just recently I tried to play it and it froze at 1 hour in. I had left it on the TV, bottom up to prevent scratches, and perhaps the effect of light over time damaged the dye layer. I assume the same would apply to recordable CDs.. A friend says when he gets a recordable disc he burns a copy on JVC media which has more contrast and better longevity.
