1. A year ago I bought a commercial DVD.
It was purple on the under side so I knew it was a burned, not pressed
DVD. It played fine. Just recently I tried to play it and it froze
at 1 hour in. I had left it on the TV, bottom up to prevent scratches,
and perhaps the effect of light over time damaged the dye layer.
I assume the same would apply to recordable CDs.. A friend says
when he gets a recordable disc he burns a copy on JVC media which
has more contrast and better longevity.
