BAS member Ken Schwarz will
demonstrate what can be achieved by combining vintage
high-end audio gear with modern digital correction.
Large-format, horn-driven speakers of the 1970s-1990s
produce an effortless and full-range sound, but
can be difficult to position and adjust for low
coloration. Kens using an inexpensive MiniDSP-based
Dirac Live processor to judiciously clean up residual
amplitude and phase errors as well as to provide
a line-level crossover into bi-amped JBL 4344Mk2
speakers. Bass is driven by a Crown PS-400 solid-state
amp, and mid/HF/UHF is driven by a Berning Siegfried
amp, an unusual 10W, single-ended triode, output
transformerless (OTL) design.
Attendees are encouraged to
bring CDs, SACDs, LPs, or Mp3s of music they'd like
to hear in the system.
Refreshments will be provided
at 6PM
