The January meeting of the BAS will feature
the annual "CES Report" by BAS members in attendance at the 2006
Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. They will report on their experiences
as well as the best sound and video at the show. Among the Show attendees
were Alvin Foster, David Weinberg, Steve Owades, Phyllis Eliasberg, Ron
Dunlap, Brian Dunlap, Clark Johnsen, Walter Swanbon, and Al Southwick.
The following are a few of the CES highlights
they will report on:
1. LEDs supplying the backlight for both LCD
and DLP screens
2. Microsoft and the Vista operating systems
3. Intel introduces Viiv, a new integrated chip set for multimedia
4. King Audio (Chinese) introduced a fantastic sounding 6' tall electrostatic
speaker, $6000.00
5. More tubes and turntables than previous CES shows
6. Shallow (not deep) Sony SXRD rear projector set
7. Smyth Research demonstrated a new technology for headphone listening
whereby the sound remains in front irrespective of your head/torso position
The weather was great this year, all sun and
60 degree temperatures!
There will be an extended Open Forum for members to share their audio and
video experiences. Also the usual table of freebies.
