BOSTON AUDIO SOCIETY
October 2008 Meeting
Date: Sunday, October 19, 2008
Time: 6:00 PM
Place: Home of Tom Horrall
Featured Guest: Tom Horrall
Topic: The Home Audio System of Tom Horrall - Room Acoustics & Noise
Control
Tom Horrall, now semi-retired, was formerly Technical
Director and a Principal of Acentech, a multi-disciplinary consulting company
and the only architectural and environmental acoustical company incorporated
directly from a division of the founding company of Bolt Beranek and Newman
(BBN). Mr. Horrall currently serves as consulting Chief Scientist of Cambridge
Sound Management, an acoustical product development and marketing company
50% owned by Acentech.
The choice to have the meeting at Tom's was easy because
he has a great sounding audio system and an architecturally designed and
acoustically treated listening room and theater. His playback system includes
B&W Matrix 800 Series II speakers, Propper Sound speakers for two back
surrounds, four Boston Acoustics in-walls for supplementary surrounds, and
a Sunfire subwoofer for up to 11 channels. Projection is via a JVC LCOS
projector. Tom's talk will describe his audio system, and focus on room
acoustics, noise control, and acoustical isolation issues.
Cookies and genuine Harvard cider will be served. Bring
along your favorite CDs.
