1. Shoptalk was a radio show
on WBUR that ran in the 70s and 80s and played a significant
role in the growth of the BAS. David Satz has unearthed and
copied some 70 shows from that period. If there is interest
we may make them available to BAS members for a donation. Guests
include Roy Allison, Mark Davis, Rene Jaeger, Andy Petite, Bob
Berkowitz, Joel Cohen, Richard Burwen, Tom Holman, Mitchell
Cotter, Ben Zander, and Tom Horrall.
2. The Zen phono preamplifier https://ifi-audio.com/products/zen-phono
from iFI seems like an extraordinary value at $149. It
has low noise MM and MC stages, switchable loading for MC cartridges,
accurate RIAA, and switchable subsonic filter. Compared with
the DB Systems DB-8 and DB-8HG phono preamplifiers (introduced
in 1995) the specs are not as good except perhaps the MC noise.
I would be interested in testing one on the bench. If anyone
buys one, I would like to borrow it for a few days. I will pay
shipping both ways.
3. The HiFi Engine library
has images, specifications and reviews for thousands of audio
components, along with free downloads of owners manuals, service
manuals, schematics and product catalogues for amplifiers, pre-amps,
power amps, tuners, tape decks, cd players etc.
